Law on Presidential Election in the Republic of Macedonia


IV. Acknowledgment of the electoral results

Article 11

The candidate receiving the greatest number of votes of the voters registered in the Unique electoral list shall be elected for a president of the Republic of Macedonia.

Article 12

If none of the presidential candidates has received needed majority of votes in the first round, the voting will proceed in the second round for two candidates that have gained majority votes in the first round.

The second round of the election will be carried out within 14 days after completing the first round.

Article 13

In the second round of election, the candidate receiving the greatest number of votes of the voters who exercised their right to vote wins the presidency, providing that more than half of them have voted.

Article 14

In case when none of the candidates has received needed majority of votes in the second round, the complete electoral procedure shall be repeated.

When only one presidential candidate is nominated and has not gained needed majority of votes in the first round of election, the complete electoral procedure shall be repeated.

Article 15

The State Electoral Commission shall announce the preliminary results of the conducted presidential election of the Republic of Macedonia within three days after the closing of the polls.


V. Making a statement

Article 16

Before overtaking duties, within ten days at the latest after announcing the final results, but not sooner than the day of the mandate cessation of the previous president, the president of the Republic makes a formal statement in front of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, as follows:

"I declare that I will perform the duties of the president of the Republic of Macedonia with great responsibility, fully respecting the Constitution and laws, and will protect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Macedonia."
